Face Processing: Theoretical and methodological aspectsFace processing is one of the most relevant aspects of our existence, as it allows the identification of others, as well as the understanding of their emotional states and behavioral dispositions, thus constituting a source of information for human interactions. Given the importance of facial recognition, this article presents a set of evidence that points to the highly specialized nature of this type of processing and the convergences and divergences between face processing models. The scope of this work also includes considerations on the representational nature of faces, relevant to the processes of encoding and decoding facial stimuli, the main statistical methods used in the area, and the challenges in research on the topic.
