Towards a Theological Hermeneutics of Immortality

The research work addresses fundamental questions related to the immortality of the soul from a theological perspective, in the context of the relationship between faith and reason. Through an analysis of the philosophical contribution, Sacred Scripture and the writings of the Holy Fathers, as well as the teachings of the Magisterium, the Catechism of the Church and the contributions of some contemporary theologians, it seeks to offer a comprehensive view of the subject. It is argued that immortality is not a Hellenic invention, but also has foundations in the Bible and the Christian tradition. Resurrection is considered to be a significant contribution of Revelation, and together with immortality, they constitute complementary concepts. To deny the veracity of the resurrection makes it difficult to sustain immortality, which is imperfect without the body. The union of both co-principles reflects a divine perfection, bringing man closer to the image of God.
