Abstract in English: Abstract If the main interest of critical theory is for a society to be free of domination, the fundamental question is: who are the oppressed groups currently? Although there is no single answer, both Fraser and Benhabib accuse traditional critical theory of being blind to gender. Fraser formulates a conception of critical theory thought from the reconciliation between feminism and post-modernism: it is a politically and philosophically pragmatic and normatively weakened theory. The theoretical efforts undertaken by Benhabib seek to remedy the gender deficits of critical theory by reaffirming the importance and place that a political philosophy can take to think about the emancipation of women in a democratic society. Exploring these theoretical differences and similarities and their consequences for a feminist theory or a critical theory, two ideas amalgamated for both authors’ works, is the aim of this paper. |

ARTIGOS Assault on Lettered Hand: Ethnographing Health, Love and Revolution through the Slam of Quentura Silva Neto, Luiz Gomes da Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo compreender a pesquisa e a promoção da saúde sob a perspectiva marginal do Slam da Quentura. Abstract in English: Abstract This article aims to understand research and health promotion from the marginal perspective of Slam da Quentura. This is a narrative writing, where I put in vogue my trajectory as a participant of social and cultural movements, such as Slam da Quentura, and a researcher in Health. I describe and analyze the potencies of life rooted in a peripheral collective, bringing reflections about the challenges of conducting ethnographic research in a post-graduation course in Family Health, which perpetuates a still very rigid view of health. |

Abstract in English: Abstract Of the image of the field researcher as endowed with extraordinary empathy for the natives, Clifford Geertz stated that the relationship between the anthropologist and the studied people is inevitably asymmetric since the two parties come to meet with different origins, expectations, and purposes. Based on this assumption, the article discusses the mutual efforts of utilitarian appropriation that, eventually, ethnographers and natives undertake among themselves. To this end, it resumes reminiscences of research conducted among charismatic Catholics, pointing out how their representatives sought to impose meanings on ethnographic work and, consequently, exercise some control over their results. Before, however, it goes through historical landmarks of ethnographic research and discusses the controversial research techniques employed by anthropologist Marcel Griaule to obtain absolute control over his informants during the ethnographic process of truth production. |

ARTIGOS Transfemicides in the City of Campinas: Case Study Fom the Ecological Model of Violence Caicedo-Roa, Monica Cordeiro, Ricardo Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo O Brasil é o primeiro país do mundo em casos de transfeminicídios. Abstract in English: Abstract Brazil is the first country in the world in cases of transfemicides. Among people from the LGBTQIA+ community, the group that suffers the most human rights violations are trans women (transvestites and transsexuals). The objective of this article is to analyze two cases of transfemicide that took place in Campinas in 2019. Narratives were constructed based on information collected through verbal autopsies, clinical autopsies and information reported in the media and analyzed through the ecological model of violence. Cases of transfemicide occurred with young women who worked as bar attendants and as sex workers. The experiences and life stories of a trans woman are different from cis women and must be understood and studied from their particularities. The female victims had low economic conditions, were killed in intimate contexts and through manifestations of high violence and hatred signaled in their bodies. The cases of transfemicide in this research are a reflection of the national reality of trans women in the country and show the difficulties in identifying and institutionally and socially recognizing these women. |

Abstract in English: Abstract The article reflects on the fallacies of arguments that consider SHPs (Small Hydroelectric Plants) and CGHs (Hydroelectric Generation Plants) as alternative sources of energy and parameter for sustainable development. Although the criterion size may induce the belief in the production of smaller impacts, the empirical reality reveals the opposite. Most of the energy produced is directed for commercial and industrial consumers. Many projects are in areas of threatened biomes, such as the Atlantic Forest, and affect living spaces of traditional people in the South, Center-West and Southeastern Brazil. Emphasis on energy generation at the expense of efficiency in management and the perspective of socio-environmental equity remain as basic problems. |

DOSSIÊ – A Morte e o Processo de Morrer nas Ciências Sociais Who is to Be Remembered? Abstract in English: Abstract This article analyses different memory practices among subalternized populations, in their struggle against violence and forgetfulness. We thus observed the processes toward the production of three pieces of mortuary homage, as well as vandalization and/or destruction of some among them, erected by social movements and/or institutions. We highlight how necropolitics against the racialized and subalternized populations of the city appears as a foremost element in their forms of remembrance. Among the homages identified in the research, three were selected to stage this discussion: the statues in honor of the fallen students, in what became known as the 'Realengo Massacre'; the inscriptions made on the site where the late Councilor Marielle Franco was ambushed and assassinated; and the monument in honor of the victims of the 'Jacarezinho Massacre'. We pay particular attention to how memory is expressed in space, depending on the involvement and the objectives of memory agents. We argue that materialities are currently a cornerstone to understanding the memory practices under analysis, particularly with regard to the agency of concerned objects and subalternized social groups. We conclude that such groups, owing to their specific socio-political circumstance, offer a historical opportunity for the defense of human rights and memorial justice. |

DOSSIÊ – A Morte e o Processo de Morrer nas Ciências Sociais Early Death in the Form of Femicide: For the Right to Justice, Truth and Memory Mariano, Silvana Souza, Márcio Ferreira de Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo A morte é, por vezes, produto de um assassinato, a exemplo do feminicídio, uma morte socialmente construída e, muitas vezes, tolerada, ou justificada. Abstract in English: Abstract Sometimes death is the product of murder, such as femicide, a socially constructed death that is often tolerated or justified. This article aims to articulate sociology of death and sociology of violence to introduce gender and patriarchy as relevant notions for reflections, in Social Sciences, on death and the process of dying, seeking a structural understanding of the death produced in relationships of power that lead to femicide, as a form of early women death. As a response to the social and legal order that makes victim invisible or blames the victim, the victimological perspective presents itself as an analytical resource in defense of right to justice, truth and memory. Based on empirical studies on cases consummated feminicides judged in Comarca Londrina in the years 2021 and 2022, we demonstrate how patriarchal power, translated in objectification and contempt of girls and women, produces feminicides in contexts of domestic and family violence and how, in the judicially of formulated response, there are risks of naturalization, invisibilization and revictimization of women. |

DOSSIÊ – A Morte e o Processo de Morrer nas Ciências Sociais “Experiencing the Meaning of Death Happens in Practice”: Health Professionals and their Experiences with Death in a Cancer Hospital in Paraíba Silva, Weverson Bezerra Franch, Mónica Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Nesse relato etnográfico serão apresentadas as experiências dos profissionais de saúde do Hospital Napoleão Laureano com a morte e o processo de morrer com os pacientes com câncer. Abstract in English: Abstract This ethnographic report will present the experiences of health professionals at The Napoleon Laureano Hospital with death and the process of dying with cancer patients. It is a hospital ethnography, seeking to contemplate the different categories of experience before the death process. Professionals from various categories of the multidisciplinary team that cares for cancer patients were interviewed, and issues were observed in common in their discourses, when it is directed to the experiences of infant death, the fear of the first dead patient and the techniques with the dead body. In view of the results, it was evident the need for professional training focused on the discussion of the theme of death during the period of academic training, so that the process of dying is a subject discussed not only in the biomedical dimension, but also sociocultural, recognizing the double suffering of the patient and his family as the suffering of the professional in the face of death. |

DOSSIÊ – A Morte e o Processo de Morrer nas Ciências Sociais For An Anthropology of The Senses of Death: Investigating the Sensitive Relationships Between the Living and the Dead in Thanatopraxy Corrêa, Pedro Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo Este artigo expõe uma reflexão em torno dos vivos e mortos, enfocando os aspectos sensoriais da relação entre ambos. Abstract in English: Abstract This article exposes a reflection on the living and the dead, focusing on the sensorial aspects of the relationship between them. Despite death being an old topic in anthropology, most studies in the discipline focus either on collective representations of the post-mortem or on funeral rituals, leaving in the background the material condition of the dead, expressed by the presence of their corpse. More than a mere object of reflection and/or intervention, the corpse sensitizes those who touch, look and smell it. Such relations do not occur outside the scope of culture: nowadays, death has become a matter of medicine, and the handling of corpses has come to be carried out by qualified individuals. Thanatopraxy is one of the many services created to deal with the dead body. In order to deepen the understanding of the relationships between the living and the dead, an anthropology of the senses of death is defended here, that is, an investigation of how the living feel the dead, with thanatopraxy as a prolific case of study. |

DOSSIÊ – A Morte e o Processo de Morrer nas Ciências Sociais Dossier Presentation – Death and the Process of Dying in the Social Sciences: Perspectives Around a Multidimensional Phenomena Soneghet, Lucas Faial Menezes, Rachel Aisengart Abstract in Portuguese: Resumo O campo de estudos da morte e do morrer é amplo e multidisciplinar. Abstract in English: Abstract Death and dying is a broad and multidisciplinary field. Being a ubiquitous and universal phenomenon, death welcomes a plurality of scientific approaches. Since the 1960s, research on death and dying in the Social Sciences has been growing and has already consolidated into a field with established questions, research agendas, and themes. Rituals around death, corpses and illness, practices of care, control and management of dead bodies or dying subjects, beliefs, ideas, representations and values that inform and give meaning to the end of life, all these objects are found in the literature with which this collection of texts converses. Throughout this paper, we offer an overview of the main questions of the field and point out how these dialogue with each paper included in this thematic number. |
