Passado meio século da publicação da Dialética do Esclarecimento de Horkheimer e Adorno, propõe-se uma reflexão sobre o significado dessa obra no seu momento e agora. Para isto sugere-se uma interpretação dos argumentos básicos da sua parte dedicada ao anti-semitismo, especialmente no que concerne à referência dos autores aos "limites do Esclarecimento".

Half a century after the publication of Horkheimer and Adorno's Dialectics of Enlightenment a reflection is proposed about the meaning of this work at its moment and today. In order to do this an interpretation of the basic arguments of its section on antisemitism is put forward, especially regarding the authors' reference to the "limits of Enlightenment".

No contraste entre a tradição alemã de ênfase na Bildung no sentido de auto-formação individual e as concepções contemporâneas de Habermas, que retira do indivíduo a condição de fonte do sentido, o autor encontra o ângulo para submeter a obra deste a uma análise crítica. No trajeto, examina a relevância de clássicos como Freud e Weber para esse debate.

In the contrast between the German tradition of emphasis on Bildung understood as individual self-formation and the contemporary conceptions of Habermas, for whom the individual is no longer the source of meaning, the author finds the standpoint for submiting Habermas' work to a critical analysis. Along the analysis the relevance of classics like Freud and Weber to this debate is examined.

Em prosseguimento a uma linha de reflexão sobre o problema da democracia nos clássicos do pensamento político moderno, o autor examina a posição de Hegel nesse debate. No que tange à sua relação com o pensamento de Rousseau, argumenta que Hegel responde a uma visão unilateralmente subjetiva da Vontade Geral com uma visão unilateralmente objetiva. As conseqüências disso são analisadas.

In the sequence of a line of reflection about the problem of democracy in the classics of modern political thought the author examines Hegel's position in this debate. Regarding his connections to Rousseau's thought it is argued that Hegel answers to Rousseau's unilaterally subjetive view of the General Will with an "symmetrically unilateral" view focused on its objetive side. The consequences of this are analysed.

Repensando Gramsci 60 anos após a sua morte o autor assinala a importância teórico-política da inserção por Gramsci da sociedade civil numa "teoria ampliada do Estado". Com base nisto, reflete sobre o conjunto do pensamento político gramsciano e sobre uma política democrática para a esquerda.

Sixty years after Gramsci's death the author points out the theoretical-political importance of the way Gramsci includes the civil society in an "amplified theory of the state". On this basis some reflections are made about Gramsci's thought as a whole and about a democratic political program for the left.

A história registra uma divisão constante entre governantes e governados. Como colocar a questão da superação disso sem abandonar o terreno sólido da história, e como manter a referência à história sem perder de vista imperativos éticos universais, incluindo a idéia-limite de uma direção política orientada para superar essa divisão? O autor examina o modo como Gramsci formula e enfrenta essas questões.

History shows a constant division between the governing and the governed. How to put the question of going beyond this without abandoning the solid soil of history, and how to maintain the reference to history without losing sight of universal ethical imperatives, including the idea of a political direction oriented towards the end of this division? The author examines the way Gramsci frames and meets these questions.

Após um exame de alguns problemas não resolvidos no feminismo analisam-se, a partir de uma perspectiva de gênero, dois importantes modelos teóricos da atualidade: o de Habermas e o de Luhmann, este visto como oferecendo uma perspectiva da "diferença". No final reflete-se sobre o tipo de políticas que resultaria de posições não mais limitadas a uma concepção rígida da questão da identidade.

After examining some unresolved problems in feminism two important contemporary theoretical models are analysed: that of Habermas and that of Luhmann, this one being seen as offering a perspective based on "difference". At the end some reflections are made concerning the kind of policies which would result from positions no longer limited to a rigid conception of the question of identity.

As contribuições do pensador italiano contemporâneo Antonio Negri à análise da atualidade e à filosofia política são examinadas nos seus temas e orientações básicas, centradas na concepção do "poder constituinte". Algumas reflexões são feitas sobre a relevância do pensamento de Negri para as condições latino-americanas. No final apresenta-se uma bibliografia das principais obras de Negri.

The contributions of the contemporary Italian thinker Antonio Negri to the analysis of today's issues and to political philosophy are examined concerning its basic themes and orientations, centered on the conception of "contituent power" . Some reflections are made about the importance of Negri's thought to the Latin-american conditions. At the end a bibliography of Negri's main works is presented.

The medieval story of Tristan et Iseut is studied as a "roman de la désaffiliation ", with this last term designating a severance, an exclusion from social ties. Tristan and Isolde form a paradigmatic case of ties condemned to rupture. Between the lines there is a reading of "désaffiliation" processes in contemporary societies.
