TWO DECADES AFTER GÊNEROS ORAIS E ESCRITOS NA ESCOLA: DIRECTIONS, PERSPECTIVES AND CHALLENGESWith the Brazilian National Curriculum Parameters, the notion of genre emerged as an object of teaching and learning, raising questions about its “ways of thinking and doing.” The translation of texts from the “Geneva Group” and their compilation in Gêneros Orais e Escritos na Escola aimed to address these questions. Twenty years later, the afterword of this thematic dossier discusses how the contributions presented therein engage with the book proposals and how, in the context of the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base, genres and their teaching fit into initial and ongoing teacher education. We highlight movements of signification and re-signification focused on a model of education aimed at citizenship formation.
