The consolidation of radio and sound media studies in the XXI century – Conceptual keys and research objects¹

This article synthesizes the results of a cartography of research objects and theoretical perspectives that guided the papers presented at the Radio and Sound Media Research Group, in the national congresses of the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies of Communication (Intercom), from 2001 to 2015. It seeks to characterize the research state-of-art in the field, which shows signs of consolidation after 25 years of the group’s creation and moves towards internationalization.

Marcelo Kischinhevsky

Marcelo Kischinhevsky has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication - Journalism (1993), a Master’s (1998) and Doctorate (2004) degree in Communication and Culture from the School of Communication of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (ECO / UFRJ). He is a professor at the Department of Journalism and at the Postgraduate Programs in Communication (Master’s and Doctorate degree) and in Cultural Journalism (Specialization) of the State University of Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Social Communication (FCS / UERJ). He coordinates, since 2009, the Audio Laboratory (AudioLab FCS / UERJ) and is the leader of the Research Group Radio Mediations and Interactions, listed in CNPq, working as adjunct coordinator of the GP Radio and Sound Media, of the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies of Communication (Intercom). Professor Kischinhevsky is the author of the books Rádio e mídias sociais: mediações e interações radiofônicas em plataformas digitais de comunicação (Mauad X Publisher, 2016) and O rádio sem onda – Convergência digital e novos desafios na radiodifusão (E-Papers, 2007), and also coordinated the compilation of the books Estudos radiofônicos no Brasil: 25 anos do Grupo de Pesquisa Rádio e Mídia Sonora da Intercom (Intercom, 2016), Políticas públicas e pluralidade na comunicação e na cultura (E-Papers, 2013) and Horizontes do Jornalismo: Formação superior, perspectivas teóricas e novas práticas profissionais (E-Papers, 2011). Lena Benzecry

Lena Benzecry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication – Publishing from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1998) and in Journalism by the Hélio Afonso Faculties (2009), a Master’s degree in Social Memory from Unirio (2008) and a PhD in Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2015). Since July 2015 is a Qualitec researcher at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, associated with the Laboratory of Research in Communication, Innovation and Culture (LAMPE / PPGCOM-UERJ). In the same institution, she is an assistant editor of the Logos Journal and also is a member of the Research Group Radio Mediations and Interactions, of AudioLab FCS/UERJ. Izani Pibernat Mustafá

Izani Pibernat Mustafá holds a Doctorate degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) with doctoral internship in the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is a master in History of the Present Time by the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) and has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication – Journalism from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). She is a Qualitec Scholarship Holder of the AudioLab – Laboratory of Audio of the State University of Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Social Communication (AudioLab FCS / UERJ), where she works as journalism coordinator, researcher and invited lecturer in the discipline “Communication in Radio”. Izani Mustafá is part of GP Radio and Sound Media of the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies of Communication (Intercom). She is a researcher in the Study Centre of Communication and Culture (CECC) of the Portuguese Catholic University Faculty of Human Sciences and author of the book Alô, alô, Joinville! Leonardo De Marchi

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication – Journalism from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), Leonardo de Marchi obtained his Master’s degree in Social Communications from the Postgraduate Program in Communication of UFF, holding a scholarship from CNPq, and his PhD in Communication and Culture from the Postgraduate Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Communication School (ECO / UFRJ) (2007 – 2011), also holding a CNPq scholarship. Between 2009 and 2010, he carried out his Post-doctoral research in the University of São Paulo School of Communication (ECA / USP) with a scholarship granted by FAPESP. Today, Leonardo De Marchi is a visiting lecturer in the Faculty of Social Communication of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (FCS / UERJ) and is part of the Research Group Radio Mediations and Interactions. Luãn José Vaz Chagas

Luãn José Vaz Chagas obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the State University of the Central-West (Unicentro) and his Master’s degree from the Postgraduate Program in Journalism (PPGJor) of the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG). He is a doctoral student of the Postgraduate Program in Communication of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and is part of the Research Group Radio Mediations and Interactions, holding a scholarship from the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support in the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ). Gustavo Ferreira

Gustavo Ferreira is a doctoral student in Communication by the State University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master in Communication by the Postgraduate Program in Communication by the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), holding a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication – Advertising from the State University of the Central-West (Unicentro). He is a collaborating professor in the Communication and Multimedia undergraduate course of the State University of Maringá (UEM) and is part of the Research Group Radio Mediations and Interactions. Renata Guimarães Victor de Oliveira

Renata de Oliveira is a Master’s student at UERJ, holds a Postgraduate degree in Higher Education Teaching from the Cândido Mendes University (2004) and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from UniCarioca (2001). She is a substitute professor in Journalism at FCS / UERJ and ECO / UFRJ and works in the professors’ team of the Union and Inclusion in Radio Networks (UNIRR) since 2005, today being part of the coordination team of the NGO.
