Open-access Socio-environmental risks and political culture: some considerations on the brazilian case

Abstract

The article analyzes the institutional context and the Brazilian political culture in the light of the theory of Risk Society, by sociologist Ulrich Beck. Several orders from institutional obstacles to recognizing and addressing the risks in the country reality are discussed. From the viewpoint of the Risk Society we have to deal with a new, uncertain and complex set of risks in a scenario where post-modernity and barbarism overlap and are often nourished.
