Fishing extension and local development: the experience of the Republic Presidency's Special Department of Aquiculture and Fishing in Pernambuco State, 2003-2006

Abstract

This study analyzes projects of Fishing Extension from the Republic Presidency's Special Department of Aquiculture and Fishing (Secretaria Especial de Aquicultura e Pesca da Presidência da República - SEAP/PR), between 2003 and 2006, in Pernambuco State in the perspective of local development. We have checked that SEAP/PR, when it raised the public service of National Fishing Extension, added the local development as a fundamental condition to emancipate fishing social contexts.
