Faces of Castilhos: Image and Political Culture in Southern Brazil (1903-1915)

The text presents the trajectory of the visual construction of Julio de Castilhos (President of the Province of Rio Grande do Sul in the 1890s) by the public authority and the press. We intend to discuss the construction of the public image of the republican leader as a political project that permeates the collections of public archives and museums and the use of these images in the commercial and political party press of the cities of Porto Alegre and Pelotas, the two main republican centers of the state.
