The foreign policy of Lula's government regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Abstract

The Brazilian foreign policy during the two terms of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was characterized by its international leadership. Although South America was its priority, the exercise of diplomacy called "active and proud" exceeded the regional level, undertaking many actions globally. This article aims to address the involvement of Brazilian diplomacy in mediating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We believe that this involvement constitutes an important shift for the Brazilian foreign policy, because for the first time Brazil has participated in diplomatic negotiations outside the United Nations framework, involving an issue of international security, and about a conflict that takes place outside its regional environment.
