“There was a hierarchy”: The Networks of Sociability in the Student Residence of the Federal Institute of Rondônia

The aim of this article is to understand the weaving of sociability networks established by a group of resident students at the Federal Institute of Rondônia - Campus Colorado do Oeste, between 1995 and 2020, and to understand how a specific school culture was constituted. The interaction between resident students made it possible to establish what we call, based on Simmel (1934), networks of sociability that went beyond the confines of the school. The research is theoretically based on studies about school institutions, everyday practices, school culture and sociability. The methodology centers on Historical Documentary Analysis and Comprehensive Interviews. As well as establishing links between students, everyday practices in the school's times and spaces made it possible to weave a network of sociability that was strengthened by bonds of friendship, exchanges of knowledge and informal conversations between residents of the house, in such a way as to consolidate a school culture with strong rural traits.
