This article is the result of the first author’s doctoral research, which, guided by the second, aimed to present discussion and evidence about the lived experience of black students in primary and secondary education in public schools in the city of São Paulo. To this end, empirical (qualitative) research was carried out consisting of observations of pedagogical practices and focus groups with the black students studied. It was noted that the contemporary school operates like a machine that, like the colonial world, is full of devices and strategies that make the black student’s experience increasingly difficult, because even within a planning of subjectivities There is a hierarchy - the racist hierarchy of capitalism. However, the students demonstrated a critical perception of the experience lived by black people in the school and social context, largely due to the collective work of teachers engaged in the construction of insurgent identities.
