Open-access Experimental Evaluation of IEC 60034-2-3 2024 Standard

The IEC 60034-2-3 standard aims to define test methods to determine the total losses of electrical machines, including the additional losses due to high frequencies from the power supply by frequency inverters. Losses due to high frequencies are presented in addition to losses in sinusoidal supply, as determined by the method standardized by IEC 60034-2-1. And, according to the regulations, harmonic losses are constant throughout the motor's operating range. This article reviews the IEC 60034-2-3 standard and presents the results of a series of experiments to evaluate the behavior of harmonic losses in relation to the seven operating points proposed by the standard, determines the yield map for non-sinusoidal power supply conditions, as instructed by the standard, and compares these results with those obtained for the motor with sinusoidal supply.
