Recapitulação: Capitu's decolonial perspective in an epistolary short story by Maria Valéria RezendeThe article analyzes the short story Recapitulação , by Maria Valéria Rezende, which reinterprets Machado de Assis's novel Dom Casmurro , offering Capitu's perspective, absent in the original work. While Dom Casmurro presents the viewpoint of Bento Santiago (Bentinho), Rezende's short story, through a letter from Capitu to her friend Sancha, gives voice to the female character who has been silenced. The short story dialogues with the original novel, expanding the narrative by exploring issues of female oppression and silencing, and contributes to decolonial discussions by challenging the hegemonic 19th-century narrative. The article also revisits previous critiques of Dom Casmurro to contextualize the contribution of Rezende's short story.
