Using the spatial SUR (Seemingly unrelated regressions) approach, the article analyzes how export shocks in the mineral commodities sector impacted average productivity in 75 specialized industrial areas, during the period known as the commodities supercycle (2007-2018). After controlling primary aspects related to the abundance of natural resources, econometric tests revealed: (1) a convexity in the elasticity of the labor factor, reinforced by the presence of economies of scale characteristic of specialized production; (2) a relatively higher elasticity of demand for intermediate goods, but visibly rigid in the long run; (3) a permanent net effect of exports, however irrelevant to boosting average productivity in the 75 industrial areas examined, over the period considered; and (4) a strong spatial heterogeneity, but which can be controlled by the SUR-SEM structure.
