This article reflects on the democratic backsliding in representative democracies in general, highlighting the centrality of institutional distrust and the growth of right-wing political alternatives in deepening it. Specifically, the text addresses the Brazilian case, focusing on public perceptions of the regime’s functioning, trust in institutions, and the remarkable organizational capacity of right-wing parties in the country. These reflections are stimulated by the political perspectives of Brazilian representative democracy.
