Open-access Uma genealogia do bem comum relacionada à cidade

This article presents a critical analysis of the concept of ‘common good’, also known as ‘common goods’ and ‘commons’, to reflect on a definition of ‘urban common’ that can encompass the complexities of the term in the disciplinary field of urbanism, as well as to address some challenges related to contemporary cities. Those challenges were drastically affected by the economic crisis of 2008. Such economic, ecological, social, and political crisis has revived the discussion on the theme of commons among various disciplines and schools of thought. Through a careful analytical interpretation carried out by reviewing the literature on the common good in various disciplines and schools of thought, this essay intends to conceptualize and update the notion of urban commons, emphasizing the problematization of the topics of housing and urbanization in the 21st century.
