Open-access Pacto fáustico e resistência no poema “A máquina do mundo”1

This essay focuses on the poem “Machine of the World”, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade (1902-1987), in the context of world literature, collating it especially to Goethe’s Faust. The essay also discusses some facets of the resistance that, according to the ideas of A. Bosi, may emanate from lyric poetry. In this perspective, the poem also relates to two devastating ecological catastrophes in recent Brazilian history, caused by a corporation against which the poet struggled throughout his life.
