Open-access The influence of reproductive system anatomy content on nursing students’ perceptions of sexual health

Anatomy of the reproductive system is important for understanding clinical aspects of sexual health. Considering that university students study anatomy in the early terms of the course while sexual health topics are addressed later, students' perceptions of their knowledge of reproductive anatomy and sexual health are unknown. In this study, we intend to evaluate the impact of the anatomy content of the male and female reproductive systems on the sexual health knowledge of undergraduate nursing students. The research was conducted with 97 students enrolled between the 3rd and 10th terms of the nursing course using a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory method. The present study observed that nursing students understand that teaching the anatomy of the male and female reproductive systems is relevant for understanding aspects related to sexual health.
