Information and knowledge in innovation and local development

Abstract

This article discusses spatial, social and institutional dimensions involved in the production and sharing of (specially tacit) knowledge that influences local innovative capacity, emphasizing the role of territoriality and social capital. Some suggestions are made for the development of parameters and instruments for empirical research, which allow the incorporation of these dimensions in the analysis of local innovative dynamics. The concluding section proposes a research agenda aiming at deepening and elucidating these issues.
