On the nature of information technology

Abstract

This paper is a reflection about the nature of information technology, its role in human constructors and their relationship with nature. A new approach is proposed in the knowledge chain (DIKW) view by the introduction of three concepts of information: syntactic, semantic and pragmatic. The same taxonomy is applied to technology. The results is a another taxonomy: syntactic technologies, semantic technologies and pragmatic technologies.
