Open-access Halfway There... a Critical Mathematics Education that can Truly Form Citizens!

The article explores Critical Mathematics Education, from a literary perspective, based on the phrase that titles the article itself. The author, by following literary paths and breaking with conventional approaches, seeks to transcend the strictly mathematical vision. Despite the apparent distance, the exploration of less conventional readings reveals a paradoxical approach to reflections relevant to Mathematics Education. This results in an intersection between different knowledge domains, indicating the possibility of confluence between them. The text is structured into three sections: reflections on "In the middle of the road...", the approach of "Critical Mathematics Education" and the feasibility of "Really forming citizens", following the reflective path outlined by the title of the research. Using data from teaching experiences, the author shares reflections from lectures, connecting Critical Mathematics Education to the voices of personalities such as Conceição Evaristo, Ailton Krenak, Chimamanda Adichie, Elza Soares and Nego Bispo. The article does not conclude, but it offers a "halfway" toward a Critical Mathematics Education committed, mainly, to life. The African proverb "If you want to know the end, pay attention to the beginning" highlights the importance of the journey in understanding the complexity of the title.
