The Brazilian Institute for Education, Science, and Culture and the institutionalization of science in Brazil, 1946-1966Abstract
The Brazilian Institute for Education, Science, and Culture (IBECC) was created as National Commission of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Brazil, shortly after the end of the Second World War, with the purpose to foster projects in these areas. The paper analyzes the development of this project, particularly in São Paulo, where scientists and educators engaged in an innovative experiment promoting popularization of science and science education through exhibitions, competitions, production of educational materials and testing kits.
