Kunangue Tenondetá: indigenous Guarani women on the move

This study discusses the importance of indigenous women who are active in Indigenous movements within indigenous territories in Mato Grosso do Sul (Jaguapiru/Bororó village) and Pará (Tekoa Pyau village). It highlights the possibilities of resistance that emerge even though these women are forcibly displaced by non-indigenous people, whether to the Dourados Indigenous Reserve (RID) in the first case, or to lands acquired after a long journey in pursuit of their dream of living in a ‘land without evils’ in the second case. Particular attention is given to the processes of ‘Guaranization’ of the new territories, as well as to the motivations that sustain women’s resistance and their pursuit of rights from a gender perspective. The discussion also addresses their strategies of struggle, empowerment and the promotion of equal opportunities.
