ONE PIRATE BOAT: THE SCHOONER SEGUNDO AT THE MOUTH OF THE ITABAPOANA RIVER, IN 1851

The slave ship, the schooner Segundo, with a number around 160 africans, arrived at the borders between the provinces of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, a year after the Eusébio de Queirós law. This article aims to contribute to the study of the illegal trafficking of africans in Brazil, using as its main source the analysis of the process of capturing the vessel, overseen by the Auditoria Geral de Marinha in Rio de Janeiro, due to the possibilities of broad connection between the disembarkation points and the multiple subjects involved in the illicit trade. In this aspect, we seek to delineate the case in three dimensions: the disembarkation, the interprovincial agents, and the penalties imposed. The work aims to, from an Atlantic particle, amplify the echoes that break the silences of illegality.
