Open-access THE INDEPENDENCE AND ITS POSSIBLE REPRESENTATIONS IN BRAZILIAN CINEMATOGRAPHY

This article aims to analyze exponents of the historical filmography dedicated to the Independence of Brazil, reflecting on how their narratives and characters support, approach, or distance themselves from certain views on the formation of an independent Brazil. While some films based on documents and iconographies support an official and didactic view of the Independence, others present free and even satirical re-readings of the event. The analysis will be based on a set of articles and reports disseminated by the press throughout the twentieth century.
