Open-access Around the Sacred and of Games in Roger Caillois

This paper aims to provide a general resemblance of Caillois’ work by reviewing his studies on the sacred and on games. First, it describes his early career point of view on the imaginary and the internal clashes of civilizations. Then, this study discusses his contributions on the role of the sacred and the feast in archaic societies, according to his 1939 work, L’homme et le sacré. Finally, we examine the premises of his famous taxonomy of games (Les Jeux et les Hommes, 1958).
