Eugenio Montale’s Translation of Spesso il male di vivere ho incontrato

The purpose of this essay is to reflect on the nature of the translated text and its relationship with the source text based on the deferral and interpenetration of language in language. Based on the idea that the gesture of translation is affective and loving and that it requires and demands the space of the other, the aim is to analyze two translations of the poem “Spesso il male di vivere ho incontrato”, published in 1925 in the volume Ossi di seppia.
