Open-access Philomela: from essay to poem

Starting from a reflection on the voice of the essay in Michel de Montaigne, Filomena Molder and Pascale Quignard, this text confronts the figure of Philomela. The historical investigation of narratives, texts and images around this figure leads to “brushing history against the grain”, in a discussion of the genre of the voice that dialogues with Anne Carson. In this trajectory, essay and poem converge and diverge at porous thresholds.
