In the Beginning Was the Word: A Comparative Analysis of Aspects of Nature as Locus Amoenus in “Mundo renovado”, by Manoel de Barros, and “Any Where Out of the World”, by Charles Baudelaire

This article aims to comparatively analyze the prose poem “Mundo renovado” by Manoel de Barros and “Any where Out of the World” by Charles Baudelaire by observing aspects of nature as a way of accessing the origins. Firstly, we will discuss a certain idea of origin, based on the assumptions of Mikel Dufrenne (1980), Anne Cauquelin (2000) and several other points of view on the theme of Nature, emphasizing its artificiality. We will then move on to comparatively analyze how the theme of Nature is addressed in the poems by Barros and Baudelaire. The article aims to demonstrate and understand how it is in the proximity of natural elements that the modern poet recreates his locus amoenus.
