Efficiency tests of phosphine generated in sachet, in comparison with that in pellets, for the fumigation of maize in bag-stacks under plastic sheets, were carried out to control infestations of maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky. Product in sachet retains the residues of the decomposed aluminum phosphine thus avoiding its contact with fumigated commodity. Results showed that the sachet formulation is an alternative to the pellets, in the fumigation of bagged maize. Both products presented satisfactory control of the pest infestations. Significant levels of phosphine concentrations during fumigation were observed.
