In the attempt to control bean golden mosaic vírus, 15 antivira! agents were tested in Phaseolus lunatus plants. Aqueous solutions of different concentrations were sprayed once on the primary leaves of the plants except Carbendazim suspensions which were watered twice on the soil. Virus inoculation was carried out after treatments through the vector Bemisia tabaci Genn. using a viruliferous whitefly colony. Results showed that systemic symptoms of the disease were delayed up to 15 days after inoculation by the application of some antivirai substances as follows: Polyacrilic acid, Acyclovir, Aspirin, Distamycin A, EHNA, Foscarnet and a Pyrazino-pyrazine derivative. This effect decreased 30 days after inoculation, disappearing completely in almost ali cases. Some drugs like Acyclovir, Aspirin and EHNA maintained their inhibitory effect until 30 days after inoculation. These results lead to the conclusion that the substances which are able to delay bean golden mosaic virus spread within the plant host may be of some interest in phytovirology specially in the early phase of bean plant development when disease damage is more severe.
