Ergasilus bryconis n. sp. was described from the gills of an Amazonian food fish called locally the "matrinchã" (Characidae: Brycon melanopterus (Cope). The new species differs from others in the genus in having a two-segmented fourth endopod and a single spine on the first maxilla.
